The type of green card. EB categories are employment-based. F categories are family-based.

Final action date

The date in the Visa Bulletin that decides when a visa number can be issued. If your priority date is earlier than this date, a visa number can be issued once the rest of your case is ready. The bulletin also lists a separate, later date for filing.

Years behind

The years between the bulletin month and the final action date. It shows how old the petitions being approved now are. It is not a prediction of your own wait.

How the dates work

Your priority date

When your petition is filed, its filing date becomes your priority date. It is printed on your receipt or approval notice.

What a priority date is and how to find yours

The cutoff changes each month

Each month the State Department publishes a final action date for every category and country. It usually moves forward, and it can stall or move backward.

How the Visa Bulletin works each month

A visa number can be issued

When your priority date is earlier than the final action date, a visa number can be issued once the rest of your case is ready. USCIS announces each month whether it also accepts the later date for filing.
